Quick Answers To Frequently Asked Questions . . .

What is Paint ‘n’ Play Art Studio?

PNP is a friendly interactive ceramic art studio in the heart of Old Town Monrovia, where you can create your own artwork on the pottery piece or statuary of your choice. Whether you are 5, 25, 55, or 105 years of age, we can help bring out the artist in you! We also help you host arty parties, which are always lots of fun!

Do I have to be an artist to paint my own pottery? I can't draw a straight line!

No! We have stencils and rubber stamps for the art-challenged. We have a design center, and a friendly knowledgeable staff, to teach you new ceramic techniques or just the basics, and we have workshops for children and adults or you can come in any time and we will teach you everything from painting monkey’s and flowers, sponging, to your favorite sports team and mastering text to say lovey dovey words to that special someone!

Do I need an appointment?

No, just walk on in and pick a project and your off and painting. Walk-ins are always welcome!

What can I paint?

We have over 500 different projects to paint with acrylic or glaze. We have dolphins, frogs, skateboards and mermaids, and other many other popular pieces, these are especially popular with children and you can take theses decorative projects home the same day. We have plates, platters and bowls in lots of useful sizes and shapes. We have cookie jars, holiday themed ceramics, tiles, and even a special flower pot for Grandma. From small tiles to bird bathes, we have it all.

Can I use this stuff?

Yes! All our paints are non-toxic, lead free, and are food-safe. They are dishwasher safe as well, although the mermaids complain that dishwashing detergent bleaches out their hair.

How much does it cost?

Our prices start at $16.50 and vary from there, depending on the size you select. If your projects needs to be glazed and fired, there is a $6.00 firing fee and that’s it! All pricing is “inclusive” and we do not charge any studio fees, so come on in, take your time, relax and create! (That vase the size of an elephant may be a bit more).

Can I bring my friends, kids, co-workers, and pets?

Of course! The more the merrier. All family members are welcome. We do ceramic doggie prints too. We have a special private party room for groups also.

What can kids do at PNP?

We can amuse children of all ages, including infants! You can paint your baby's feet, or your children's hands on a platter, a bowl, or a coffee mug.  Even the youngest child likes to play with brushes, sponges and paints. Finger painting on pieces (but not on employees) is allowed and encouraged. Aprons are provided for everyone and the paints rinse off the kids and their clothes with water. Grandparents love and cherish the gifts kids can make them.

Can you come to my school/office/home/party?

Yes! We go to schools, restaurants, hospitals, businesses, parks. Plan it indoors or out...we love to party! See our party page for more information. For parties at your place, we have To-Go Kits available. Having a large party? Our staff members can come and run a party wherever you are. That includes face painting.

How long do I have to wait to get my project back?

Usually a piece is available within three or four days. Around holiday times the wait could be a little longer, but we have always been able to accommodate rush orders.

Do you have classes?

Our classes are fun and filled with an assortment of ceramic art mediums.  We will show you how to paint graphics , vegetables, flowers, bugs, stripes, plaids, and borders, and teach you how to  hand build with clay or throw on our potters wheel. We will even teach you how to paint on the 3D statuary with acrylic paints. We also offer drawing classes on canvas.  See our workshops page for more information.
